From the Course

Rainfall for the Week: 15.5mm,  Rainfall for 2024: 289.0mm, Dam: 100%,  Green Speed: 9.0 feet

Work has continued by our contractors at the 7th tee, with the new sandstone boulder retaining wall being installed this week. The base for the side banks of the tee have been formed, and the base for the back half of the new single tee pad has also been constructed. This new tee complex will eventually blend into the rear surrounds of the new 19th green complex.

The 9th hole has come back into play this week with the 7th hole out of play. The new turf will remain as compulsory GUR for a few weeks, until we are able to mow the surrounds of this green with our mowers as this will ensure the surrounds are safe enough for play on them. The sandstone blocks in the carpark are going to be installed in the pond near the inlet pipes and provide a solid base for the smaller blocks which were saved from around the old putting green. The installation of these blocks will ensure that any water travelling over the path won’t erode the soil beneath the pathway.

All greens were lightly scarified this week to remove excess thatch from the putting surfaces which will improve infiltration rates of surfaces and enable them to dry out quicker after rainfall and provide firmer surfaces as the thatch creates a spongy/ soft putting surface. The dusting program on greens will resume next week.

Our volunteers were on course this week performing a bunker run before the competition, trimming fairway sprinkler heads, replacing a worn net in the practice bays, trimming the hedges at the 6th tee, hand weeding Crab Grass weeds from the 17th tee, and divotting fairways. Thank you to everyone that contributed this week, the course team, your fellow members, and I really appreciate all of your efforts to make Oatlands as good as it can be.

We will be cutting greens both mornings this weekend. Have a great weekend and happy golfing!

The Course Team.

Website Speed Issues

A number of members have reported that our website has become slow to load, particularly around heavy traffic times such as when timesheets are opening. This has been reported to our website provider (MiClub) who have run diagnostics on their server and made some adjustments which should have resolved the issue. We will continue to monitor the websites performance.

We apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused and encourage members to advise the Club if they experience ongoing issues.

Pennant Update

Men’s Major Pennant

The Oatlands Major Pennant team headed out to Richmond GC for their Round 2 clash with Richmond last Sunday on a very tight track. They were full of confidence after their big win at home the previous week.

Roger Nakaad led us off as reserve and came home with a strong 1up victory. Mister consistency Charlie Kim playing at No7 played some great golf again and won his match 2/1. Nathan Wareham had a dominant away win getting over the top of his opponent 5/3. Hope was growing!

Brad Hooper and Will Reece came up against some stiff competition and unfortunately both went down 4/2. At 2 matches all, we were still very much in it. Unfortunately though, the home ground advantage kicked in with Christian Rees’ opponent making Eagle on 16 to win 3/2, Luke Mason’s opponent making birdie on 17 to win 2/1 and Grant Lomas’ opponent making birdie on the last to win 1up. Final score was a 5/2 loss.

It was a great effort from the boys on a very difficult track. We now move our focus to Dunheved at 11.10am on Sunday 18th February to try and secure the elusive away win.

Special mention must go to our number 1 and 2 supporters Judy Williams and Murray Forrest who, no matter how far, turn up each week to support the team. It is very much appreciated (especially when Murray shouts dinner!)
