From the Course

Rainfall for the Week: 12.5mm,  Rainfall for 2023: 485.0mm, Dam: 100%   Green Speed: Renovations

Greens are recovering very well from the recent renovations and are ahead of where they would usually be. This means our greens will be back to their true putting surfaces before we know it!

We gave the greens their first cut on Monday morning at 5mm and we would then lower this height of cut by 1mm each week until we are back down to our standard cutting height of 3mm. Because the greens have recovered so well, we have lowered the cutting height to 4mm for the Thursday morning cut and the greens have handled this well. We are still waiting on parts for one of our greens rollers. Once they arrive, we will be able to give the greens a roll to smooth out any irregular areas from the aeration process.

Bunkers on the 5th and 18th have been trimmed this week to give that nice sharp edge appearance to these intimidating bunkers. Sand in these bunkers has also been moved around to provide correct playing conditions.

Winter grass weeds have emerged throughout our collar areas, with the fertiliser applied to greens during the renovations also feeding these weeds. We have modified a spray hawk applicator and sprayed the back 7 collars on Thursday afternoon behind the morning field. Once again, the team must be very cautious with this herbicide application to ensure that this chemical isn’t tracked onto the greens, as our greens are also predominantly winter grass as well. We will get the front 11 collars sprayed on Friday.

All greens received a fungicide application on Thursday morning to ensure these surfaces remain disease free. Root development products were also added to the tank as well as a wetting agent and soil penetrant to assist with moisture management of these surfaces. The wetting agent and soil penetrant drag moisture away from the surface down into the profile to provide firmer putting surfaces. The true test will be over the weekend with predictions of up to 20mm on both days, just what we don’t want with the course starting to dry out nicely from last week’s rainfall.

Our volunteers were on course Monday morning, with reduced numbers as some required a week off after their extra efforts last week. Fairway sprinkler heads and path edges were trimmed, the fly traps were brought in, and a new set of red tee markers were painted. Thank you gentlemen for your assistance!

Greens will be cut on Saturday and dew will be removed from them on Sunday.

Have a great weekend!

Minors (under 18yrs) in the Clubhouse

Oatlands Golf Club has one of the largest junior programmes in Sydney with over 100 members in our Junior Development Programme and many of these young members have been utilising the Club. This has resulted in feedback and enquiries with regard to the Club’s policy and license requirements around Minors (under 18yrs) accessing the Clubhouse.

The following are the main aspects of the Club policy and license as they relate to clubhouse access by minors:

  • Minors may access the Clubhouse at any time under the direct supervision of an adult
  • Minors may only approach the bar in the direct company of an adult
  • Minors may access the Clubhouse as part of sporting related activities – This means they may sit with their group post golf but may not approach the bar unaccompanied

Members, and in particular, the parents or guardians of Junior and Junior Development members, should be aware of these requirements and ensure that no minors access the clubhouse unsupervised. Members who bring children, who are not members to the Club, must ensure those children are under direct supervision at all times.

Breaching these requirements could result in disciplinary action under the Club’s Constitution.

The Club’s policy and license requirements have been reinforced to clubhouse staff, who have been instructed to actively address any breaches that arise.

We thank you in advance for your co-operation in ensuring the Club’s compliance with regard to this matter.

MiScore Dual Signature Submission

Golf Australia today have advised the removal of COVID19 Rules to conclude by the end of April 2023. This will affect OGC’s current self-score submission method.

To comply with these requirements, the MiScore App will be amended to have the player’s marker record the scores and submit at the conclusion of each round. This will include capturing both player and markers signatures prior to score submission.

Once implemented, for a pairing whom both players score via the app, they will record each other’s score, sign and submit.

In the circumstance of a pairing whereby only one player is using the app, the app user will need to source a physical scorecard to provide to their marker.

MiClub will action this change to the MiScore App between 24th and 28th April, which will be applied in an update to the system during the evening so it doesn’t affect daily competitions. This will ensure the deadline of 1 May 2023 is achieved, as per notice from Golf Australia.
