From the Course

Rainfall for the Week: 9.5mm,  Rainfall for 2023: 443.5mm, Dam: 100%   Green Speed: 10.0feet

It’s been a shortened week due to the Easter weekend but that doesn’t mean the team has taken their foot off the pedal. The rain last weekend had a quick effect on playing surfaces turning them very wet and soft due to the fact that moisture levels in the soil profile remain very high, as we haven’t been getting any drying weather conditions in between the rain periods. As soon as the wind arrived on Easter Saturday morning, surfaces improved quickly and we were able to have medical carts on Sunday and full carts on Monday, without any damage to the course.

Fine weather has continued all week and with milder daytime temperatures, greens surfaces have dried out allowing the team to present firmer putting surfaces which in turn increases the speed of the greens.

All areas of the course have been mown this week, and spraying of weeds in gardens has also been performed, to get these areas looking better and maintained.

With greens renovations starting on Monday morning, the team will be coring the 19th and practice greens on Friday to ensure the verti drain machines are set up correctly so that there are no holdups on Monday morning. Tree contractors will be on course on Monday and Tuesday while it is closed, firstly removing several dead trees that are situated above our dam pumphouse (below the tip area on the 15th). If any of these dead trees were to fall, significant damage would be caused to our pumphouse which is a vital piece of infrastructure for irrigation needs of our tees and fairways. If time permits and course conditions are ideal (not too wet and soft), the tree contractors will remove a lightning struck tree between the 4th and 6th fairways, and tidy up some dead pine trees on Oatlands House driveway.

It will be a very busy 3 days for the team next week, and with a little help from Mother Nature with a nice sunny day on Tuesday, we should have the greens ready for course reopening on Thursday.

Our volunteers had the week off due to Easter, but the small break will prepare them for greens renovations next week. They will assist with the picking up of the cores from the greens, then tee marker and tombstone painting is planned, parking lines in the car park and lines on the speed humps at the 9th tee will be freshened up, and they are also going to address the exit of the 1st tee path and install the Geohex product to present an improved appearance to this area.

We will be cutting greens on Saturday and only removing dew from the greens on Sunday.

Have a great weekend!

The Course Team

OGC US Masters Breakfast – Sloan and Rahm win the Masters

John Rahm held off a strong field at August to win the 2023 US Masters and OGC member Scott Sloan was similarly successful at Oatlands claiming the OGC Green Jacket with a fine score of 44 points.

After three years of Covid and weather disruption (both at Oatlands and Augusta), the Club finally got to host an uninterrupted Masters Breakfast and it was fantastic to see record attendance (138 members and guests) join us for the coverage, breakfast and golf.

The scoring at OGC was like Phil Mickelson in the final round and Scott’s 44 points held of a number of 40 + point scores.

Well done and thanks to all members who took part in the event!

US Masters 2024 – Hosted by Jeremy Ward

Oatlands Golf Operations Manager and PGA Professional is seeking expressions of interest for a 2024 US Masters trip.

Details are in the image below with more information available by contacting Jeremy Ward golfoperations@oatlandsgolf.com.au.

Spaces are limited.

MiScore Dual Signature Submission

Golf Australia today have advised the removal of COVID19 Rules to conclude by the end of April 2023. This will affect OGC’s current self-score submission method.

To comply with these requirements, the MiScore App will be amended to have the player’s marker record the scores and submit at the conclusion of each round. This will include capturing both player and markers signatures prior to score submission.

Once implemented, for a pairing whom both players score via the app, they will record each other’s score, sign and submit.

In the circumstance of a pairing whereby only one player is using the app, the app user will need to source a physical scorecard to provide to their marker.

MiClub will action this change to the MiScore App between 24th and 28th April, which will be applied in an update to the system during the evening so it doesn’t affect daily competitions. This will ensure the deadline of 1 May 2023 as per notice from Golf Australia is achieved.
