From the Course

Rainfall for the Week: 18.0mm,  Rainfall for 2022: 1,697.0mm Dam: 100%   Green Speed: Renovation

Our greens are slowly recovering after last week’s renovations, slowed by some colder weather that brought snow to the Blue Mountains during the week. The rainfall on Tuesday afternoon/night was beneficial, as it helped settle the sand on greens, and any fairways that had already been topdressed.

All fairways should be topdressed and rubbed in by the end of the week. Next week we start fertilising all fairways and will be applying a residual insecticide and pre-emergent herbicide. All of these products require watering in, so if you see sprinklers running on fairways, we haven’t lost the plot! We are applying a small amount of irrigation so that these products are placed in their desired location.

The reinforced gravel path (Geohex product) on the right hand side of the 16th flyover has been completed and handled the 16.5mm of rainfall the course received on Tuesday night well. The team has also installed another section of this Geohex product in front of the maintenance shed on a worn area which has been created as staff exit and enter our facilities. New turf will be laid at the 13th fairway end of this area, which will then be covered with the green plastic mesh to protect the turf from the constant wear it receives.

Two erosion repairs have been performed this week. The concrete pit at the bottom of the 5th gully had a big hole in its side wall, which was allowing the surrounding soil to wash away into the pit. The team dug this up and concreted up the hole before packing in new dirt around the outside of the pit. The second repair required our new excavator to be used, and this was on the 15th flyover. A large concrete stormwater pipe was broken, and again the soil above it was washing down through the break in the pipe. A new PVC pipe was installed to repair the broken section of the concrete pipe, and this area has been backfilled and levelled off with soil.

Our volunteer’s were on course Monday morning, performing a bunker run before the competition, cleaning and painting the handrail along the 5th hole path, and replacing/ repairing the practice nets. Thank you gentlemen for your contribution once again this week!

Enjoy the weekend!

Legacy Cup – Helping Families of Veterans

The Club’s Annual Legacy Cup event was played on Saturday August 20th with 184 players participating and helping to raise over $900 for Legacy. The winner of the day was Salim Rahmati with a fine score of 39 points despite a wipe on the 18th, edging out John Bowring and Charlie Russell on a countback. Salim and another Club Representative will get the chance to play in the annual Legacy Golf Day competing against all the other Clubs that host a Legacy event.

Late Cancellations – Please Cancel Early

Members are reminded to please cancel golf bookings as early as possible to provide fellow members with the maximum opportunity to book preferred tee times.

The Club has set caps on membership which have seen no members left on waitlists in the last 3 years, other than when we were forced to play in groups of two due to Covid restrictions. This is a fundamental aspect of a private members Golf Club and one that the Match Committee and Management monitor very closely.

In recent months, the weather impact has created higher than normal demand for tee times when we have had the golf course open, and there has been a growing trend of tee times being cancelled late the night before or on the day of play. As an example of this, the average number of cancellations for a Saturday in the last 3-months (excluding weather effected days) from 5pm on Friday has been more than 20 people. That is over 10% of bookings cancelling after hours, the day before play.

Sometimes the need to cancel at short notice is unavoidable, but we ask all members to please consider the demand for tee times and cancel your bookings at the earliest opportunity when you are unable to play.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!
