Membership Renewals 2019/20

The Club has just rolled over into a new membership year. Membership Renewals are tracking well ahead of the same time last year and setting the Club and its membership up for another positive year ahead.

Members with outstanding Membership Subscription invoices are reminded that their memberships will become inactive in the Club’s membership system and website, as of the 15th April 2019.

Members who would like to pay their membership by monthly direct debit are reminded that the Board has made a decision to remove the monthly administration fee.

To pay your membership subscription or transfer to monthly direct debit, please contact the Club Reception: administration@oatlandsgolf.com.au

The Board and Management look forward to sharing the year ahead with you!

From the Course

Rainfall for the week: 34.5mm           Rainfall for 2019: 393mm                 Dam: 100%        Green Speed 7 feet

This week, the team has once again spent considerable time repairing bunkers (when it rains, it pours!). The damage to the bunkers this time around hasn’t been as significant allowing staff to start removing any silt that had been washed into the sand. This will hopefully ensure that bunkers continue to drain naturally without the need to pump them out following each rain event.

Greens continue to recover from renovations, with recovery time impacted by ongoing rain.  Height of cut is down to 3.5mm as of Wednesday, reducing down to 3mm on Monday. Rolling will be performed several times leading into the medal next weekend (Saturday 13th April) to ensure speed is back around the 10ft range.

We have started preparing the practice and nursery greens for seeding, which will take place on Monday. The seed will be soaked over the weekend for pre-germination, which will ensure a faster germination once placed onto the prepared beds.

Enjoy the weekend!

The Course Team

Volunteer Update

The Volunteers were back on course on Monday, raking bunkers that didn’t contain water or silt, blowing fairways, mowing rough, repairing or removing tree guards, edging pathways and performing repairs to a neighbour’s fence behind the Course Maintenance Facility. A large branch fell from one of our trees early one morning, going through the fence and damaging some property. A special thanks to Bill Tunks who did a fantastic job rebuilding the fence / gate, and thanks to all of the volunteers for all your help on Monday!

Ladies Update

Barbara Koch Memorial Day – Monday 8th April

On Monday 8th April, the annual Barbara Koch Memorial Day will be held for the ladies.  This is one of our major fund raising days and we would like as many women as possible to join our field. All monies raised on the day will go to ANZGOG (Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Group).

The theme for the day is pink and purple, but this year we are asking ladies to wear their club shirts.  If you don’t have a club shirt, then any pink or purple shirt would be great.

The day is a shotgun start at 8.00am for 8.30am and morning tea will be available for a gold coin donation.  Our major raffle will be drawn on the day and we are fortunate once again to have Charlie Koch attend and present the trophy.  We look forward to seeing everyone on the day!

New Member Buddy Programme

The Membership Committee would like to ask for members to volunteer to be part of a new Buddy Programme for new members. Integration into a new Golf Club can often be daunting, especially if joining alone; and the Committee is keen for new members to feel comfortable and become involved in Club activities from the beginning of their membership. With this in mind, the Club is calling for expressions of interest to members being involved in a Buddy Programme. This would involve buddy members playing a game with new members, introducing them to the handicap and competition process, and introduction to various social circles.

If you would like to take part in this programme, please email the General Manager, Sam Howe at gm@oatlandsgolf.com.au

Rules of Golf – Focus of the Week

As of Saturday 6th April, Members will notice that signs will be placed on the 1st and 12th tees adjacent to the main tees of the day outlining a Rule Focus for the Week. These signs are in place to assist members in getting up to speed with the new Rules of Golf that came into effect as of 1st January.

The Rules changes were made to simplify the game and to improve the enjoyment of golf in general. One of the drivers for the changes made by the R&A was to improve Pace of Play with the reduction of time allowed to search for a lost ball, and removing the need for the flag to be removed or attended when putting. Golf Clubs in general are reporting that the traction of these Rules and subsequent improvements in Pace of Play have been slower than expected, which is understandable with golfers being creatures of habit.

All members are asked to have a read of the weekly Rules Focus on each of the starting tees and implement the Rule wherever possible to assist all golfers to get the maximum enjoyment from their time on the course.

Thank you for your assistance.
