From the Course

Rainfall for the week: 66.0mm (as of 7am Sat 16.3.19)          Rainfall for 2019: 230mm                 Dam: TBC        Green Speed 9.5 feet

This week has been a week of preparation for Greens renovations which we hope will start on Sunday afternoon. The weather, as always, will be a deciding factor in what takes place on Sunday. The various weather apps and websites available all have varying amounts of rain predicted, so a decision on whether the renovation starts on Sunday will have to be made either Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning.

All greens have been scarified this week to depth of 6mm. This has removed a lot of dead thatch material and hasn’t disturbed putting surfaces too much.

Fungicide has been applied to greens for leaf and root diseases to protect them against disease. We inflict damage to them during the renovation process and this leaves an opportunity for the turf to be attacked by these disease pathogens.

The ladies yellow tee on the 11th hole has moved across road as of today at the request of the Ladies Committee. This is to assist shorter hitters get past the new drainage mound at the beginning of the fairway. The temporary tee will be in place pending feedback on its location which should be provided to the Ladies Committee or General Manager. Traffic flow for golfers, buggies and carts will be managed by ropes and signs, enabling golf carts to park between the new tee area and the houses. Carts are then directed back to the roadway to enter the 11th fairway at the existing entry point from the road. If deemed suitable, this new tee area will be improved in time, with a level teeing area and new couch turf.

Enjoy the weekend!

Volunteer Update

Volunteers were on course Monday checking bunkers before the ladies competition, blowing fairways, edging pathways, replacing the nets in the practice bays and performing clubhouse repairs. Thanks to all volunteers for your assistance again this week! We look forward to having as many of you around on Sunday and/or Monday. Any members wishing to join our brigade of volunteers to assist the course staff (followed by lunch) can join in at 7am every Monday.

Course Renovation / Clubhouse Closure Notice

Communications: Members are advised that on Monday 18th March, whilst the course and clubhouse are closed for renovation, the Clubs computers and phone lines may suffer some disruption throughout the day while the main server computer has scheduled maintenance carried out. We apologise for any inconvenience and will do our best to limit the disruption.

Wednesday 20th March: Members are advised that the competition format for Wednesday 19th March has been changed to a 2 Person Ambrose to provide a contingency for the course renovation work to be completed, during play on Wednesday if required, and as a result of an almost certain rain delay, to ensure there are no breaches of the Golf Australia handicap regulations for a singles handicapped event.

Practice Pitching / Nursery Green to be Closed after Renovation

Members are advised that the Practice Pitching / Nursery Green (adjacent to the carpark) will be closed following the Autumn course renovation on 18 / 19 March. This is due to the high level of un-repaired pitchmarks and subsequent deterioration of the putting surface in recent times, as per the photos below.

As well as being the main source of turf, in the event that one of the 18 greens on the golf course needs repair, it is hoped that this green will act as a temporary practice putting green when the Club undertakes planned upgrade work to the main practice putting green precinct. Members will see from the photos above that the grass itself is in good condition, however the volume of pitch marks makes it redundant for either replacement turf, or practice putting, and subsequently the decision has been made to close this green for the time being.

Further communication will take place around the status of this area as conditions improve.

Member Feedback Survey

Last week members were asked to participate in a short survey on service satisfaction by area at Oatlands Golf Club.

Over 30 members completed the survey, and while this is a modest number, the ratings and commentary provided will assist the Board and new General Manager to prioritise the focus over the short term. An overview of the results as a whole are given below.

Using the following point scale:

Very Satisfied – 5

Satisfied – 4

Ok – 3

Dissatisfied -2

Very Dissatisfied – 1

Members ranked their overall satisfaction with Club services 4.01 out of 5. This is pleasing result however it is important to note that the purpose of this survey was to assist in the process of continual improvement, and because of this, the team at OGC will be discussing the results in detail and working on ways to improve consistency across all areas of the Clubs operation.

If you have any questions or comments on the survey please direct to the General Manager, Sam Howe at gm@oatlandsgolf.com.au.

House Account – Automatic Direct Debit Payment Date

Commencing in April, monthly direct debit payments for member House Accounts will be deducted on the 14th of each month for the balance outstanding on the previous month. This is being done to allow members time to review their account prior to the automatic payment being deducted from the nominated bank account, and in response to member feedback. Please note, this is separate to monthly membership subscription payments which will be deducted on the current schedule (first business day of each month).

Limited Playing Membership Category – Name Change

The Membership Committee and Board have recently approved a change in name for the Limited Playing Membership category to Lifestyle Membership. It is believed that this better represents the benefits of this category which has a limit on competition play only, not on social play.

Men’s Major Pennant

Well fought out draw at away game!

Last Sunday the Oatlands boys took on Cabramatta at their home course. What a great morning of golf with three of the matches decided on the 18th green and the boys coming away with a hard-fought draw 3.5-3.5 on a tough Cabramatta course.

Norm Nakhoul coming home with a great win 4/3.Luke Mason again dominating at no.2 with a 4/3 win. Tim Frazer is really playing some great golf at no.1 and coming away with a faultless performance winning 5/4. Sean Porter played some solid golf against a tough opponent & managed to come away with a fantastic half which was essential for the team score & doing this having never played the course before. Both Steve Doherty & Nick Murdoch’s games went to the 18th with only a putt deciding their matches. Will Reece & Joe El- Badawi put up a great fight but it just wasn’t their day to win.

It was a fantastic effort by all the boys to come away with such a great result for an away game.

This Sunday we are at home against Cabramatta. It is a must win situation for both teams as the winner will avoid regulation from the division. If ever you want to see Pennants golf played at its best then this Sunday at 7am is the place to be as the Oatlands boys are playing great golf & will undoubtedly put up a tough fight against the visitors.

The team love the support of the Oatlands home crowd so get out there this Sunday & cheer the boys on.

Come on Oatlands!!
