13TH JUNE 2025

FROM THE COURSE

It’s disappointing to see so many unfilled divots across the fairways and roughs at the moment. With colder weather now upon us, turf growth has slowed significantly, meaning any unfilled divots will remain visible and damaged right through winter, only recovering once warmer spring conditions return. A sincere thank you to those members who consistently fill their divots, and an even bigger thanks to those who go the extra mile by filling others as well. Your efforts make a noticeable difference.

Tree stumps around the course have been ground down and filled this week with some additional turf to be laid over these sites. The course team has been cutting turf from the 12th fairway this week to utilize around the course repairing damaged or thin areas on fairways. To-date, we have laid this turf on the 11th fairway and at the front left of the practice green surrounds to repair an area that was worn out during the construction of this green complex.

We have started adding sand to the back bunker of the 19th green with the initial loads being tipped from the 7th tee to limit the heavy load of the tractor and trailer over the new green surrounds. A concrete bowl is being laid on Friday morning on the end of the path leading into the 19th green from the 7th tee area. This is the last requirement for trucks to access the course down the track between the 7th and 8th fairways, meaning we can start the task of repairing this track to return it back to normal playing conditions.

The practice green was given a heavy dusting of sand this week to even out any imperfections, and the 19th green was given a lighter dusting. We have purchased some bird deterring devices which have sensors in them that when activated send out ultrasonic sounds that scare the ducks and birds away. These devices have worked well at other courses so hopefully they do the same for us!

The volunteers focused on assisting with further cleaning in the old proshop area this week and fairway divotting was performed on Thursday morning. Thank you to everyone that helped this week. Greens will be cut on both mornings this weekend. I will be setting pins on Saturday and Garry will set them on Sunday.

Happy Golfing
The Course Team.

PENNANT UPDATE

Master Pennants

The Oatlands Master Pennant team recorded another strong win this week, securing a hard-fought 5–3 victory over Bankstown, the very team that beat them earlier in the season. With just two matches remaining, both against a strong Castle Hill side, Oatlands now sits atop the leaderboard.

Leading from the front, Gilbert Im and Simon Perry posted dominant wins, setting the tone for the team. They were backed up by impressive performances from Mark Robinson and Mike McKechnie, whose convincing victories locked in the crucial four points needed to secure at least a draw.

With the overall match on the line and the entire clubhouse watching, Ian Priest stepped up under pressure. Needing to birdie the final hole, Priest delivered a near-perfect tee shot to just one meter from the pin, clinching both his match and the overall team win for Oatlands.

The team now prepares for a critical away match against Castle Hill this weekend. Members are encouraged to attend Castle Hill Golf Club this Sunday at 11 AM and cheer on the team in what promises to be an exciting showdown.

Oatlands Cup & Long Marker Knockout Qualifying

The Oatlands Cup presented to the Club by Mrs. B.E. Parker in 1932 is an 18-hole handicap match play competition, where the top eight qualifiers compete over three weeks to be crowned the 2025 Oatlands Cup Winner.

The Long Marker's Knockout is a similar 18-hole match play competition, open to qualifiers off a 35 - 54 handicap, with the trophy donated in 1971 by Mrs. G.A. Tait. "Mrs. Tait was a former army officer and ran very tight ship as captain. She was a real character with a wonderful sense of humor".

Congratulations to the ladies’ pairs who claimed victory in their Quarter Final matches yesterday. We now look forward to the Semi Finals next Thursday, and wish all remaining pairs the very best of luck.

Charlie Kim Wins the Ryde-Parramatta Senior Open

A trio of Oatlands members were out at Ryde-Parramatta Golf Club yesterday for their Senior Open with Charlie Kim putting together a great round of golf to clinch the Ryde-Parramatta Senior Open title, finishing three strokes ahead of the competition with a score of 73, two over par.

Navigating the challenging layout of the Ryde-Parramatta Golf Club, Charlie's usual steady play and composure under pressure were on full display as he adds another Senior event win to his list of golfing achievements. Mark Robinson was also in the mix finishing T-7th.

Congratulations to Charlie and Mark who look to be finding a good run of form that hopefully continues into the weekend for their Masters Pennant match against Castle Hill and with the Oatlands Senior Cup not far away either, we will hopefully see some great rounds of golf put together by our members who are entered into the field.
