UTILITY TRENCHWORK

This week has seen significant progress in and around the Club, as part of the early-works preparations. The boundary fence has now been fully erected around the old clubhouse, allowing contractors to commence the internal strip-out works ahead of the main demolition, scheduled for next month.

Members are reminded that all access to and from the temporary clubhouse is now via the southern side of the clubhouse, with access from the old 18th hole side permanently closed. Cart and pedestrian access to the 13th tee from the Club or 12th hole is via the defined path located behind the 1st tee.

On Monday, four temporary power poles were installed to allow contractors to disconnect power to the old and temporary clubhouse before reconnecting the temporary clubhouse to the permanent power feed located to the south of the car park. The Bettington Road car park entry was temporarily closed on Wednesday to allow trenching for water services to the site, while other utility trenching works have continued—in and around competition play.

The food trailer and temporary cool room were successfully relocated on Monday with the assistance of the volunteers along with Dom, Gary, and their team—a smooth and efficient process that ensured lunch was ready for the Ladies Veterans’ Day that afternoon. Thank you to all involved for your hard work and cooperation.

The water and gas line to Oatlands House and the temporary clubhouse has now been trenched across the 1st hole (before the fairway), with only the section along the northern side of the 1st tee remaining. The secondary trench for NBN has been completed up to the 1st tee, with only the short section to the temporary car park still to be finished. These disturbed areas will be re-turfed in due course under the supervision of Course Superintendent Dom Yates.

Note: All access to and from the Temporary Clubhouse and Car Park is via the southern side of the old Clubhouse.

 MEMBER COMPETITION FEE CHARGING

A reminder that effective last week, competition fees are now being processed in bulk by the Club office at the end of each day rather than individually in the Pro Shop — allowing staff to focus more on assisting members and enhancing your overall experience.

BIRTHDAY VOUCHERS

As part of our move to the temporary Clubhouse, birthday vouchers will now be issued electronically from the start of November. This new system not only simplifies the process but also gives members greater flexibility—vouchers can now be redeemed for lessons, Proshop merchandise, or food and drink, up to a value of $80. Each voucher will be valid for six months, giving you plenty of time to enjoy your birthday treat!

If you have any questions or need help redeeming your voucher, our friendly office staff are happy to assist—just pop in and see us.

FROM THE COURSE

Rainfall for the week                                     3.0 mm
Rainfall for 2025                                        1053.5 mm

The hot and windy weather this week created some testing conditions for the course team with a large tree brought down near the 6th green and several large branches falling around the course on Wednesday evening. Leaf debris covered the course because of the strong winds, with the course team doing their upmost to tidy this debris up as quickly as possible.

The first application of growth regulator for the season was applied this week with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 18th fairways, roughs and green surrounds treated, with some of the 4th hole to be completed. Residual insecticide has been added to the tank mix to control Billbug, African Black Beetle, and Argentinian Scarab Beetle, along with a pre-emergent herbicide to control weeds such as Summer Grass and Crab Grass weeds. The weather and debris across surfaces has interrupted this work as we are unable to spray when it is too windy, and the growth regulator needs to contact the leaf of the turf for it to be absorbed by the plant, therefore if we are applying to surfaces covered in leaf debris, the growth regulator will miss its intended target and money and time will be wasted.

The team has made a conscience effort in the bunkers this week to ensure sand is being moved around and deposited in correct places so that all material linings are well covered, and the bases of the bunkers have the correct shape to them. All areas of the course have been mown this week with a complete cut of the rough, and the blowers and vacuum working overtime to keep on top of the debris as much as possible.

Our volunteers were back on the deck Monday morning moving the food truck and cool room over next to the temporary clubhouse facility. Drainage pits were cleaned and trimmed, more fly traps were placed out around the course, refurbishment work on the tee plates continued, fairway divotting, and annual testing and tagging of the club’s electrical equipment was completed. Thank you, gentlemen, for another productive week, your assistance is always very much appreciated.

Greens will be cut on Saturday morning and then cut and rolled on Sunday morning. I will be setting pins on both mornings.

Happy Golfing
The Course Team.

92ND AGM NOTICE

The 92nd Annual General Meeting of the Club was held on Wednesday evening. Over fifty members attended remotely via the Vero platform, with another 30 present in person, meaning a total of 87 members participated.

The meeting saw the current Board members returned unopposed, and we sincerely thank them for generously giving their time and expertise for the benefit of the Club and all members. Members also had the opportunity to ask questions regarding the 2024/25 financials and the Clubhouse development, with responses provided by the Board and management.

In the meantime, if members have questions relating to any sub-committee matters, these can be sent to Club General Manager Rob Blain at gm@oatlandsgolf.com.au. Such questions will be tabled at the relevant sub-committee meeting, and a formal response will be provided.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

The quarter-finals of the Men’s Club Championships were held last weekend, and we congratulate all players who have progressed to the semi-finals, scheduled for this weekend.

  • A Grade: Young Corey Hardy will take on the more experienced Charlie Kim, while the other semi-final is a battle of Pro Shop staff, with Christian Fong facing Wil Reece for a spot in the final.

  • A Reserve (The Plate): Scott Levy and Rod Butcher have qualified for one semi-final, with Joe Isaac taking on young Max Hardy in the second match.

  • B Grade (Middle Marker): Curtis McNamara secured a big win to meet Pablo Hrdina in one semi-final, while Richard Grice, fresh off an 8 & 6 victory, will face Matt Rennie in the other.

  • C Grade (Long Markers): Andrew Tohme rallied late to beat George Isaac and will play John Crawford, who recorded a strong 6 & 4 victory, while Ben Griffith faces Brendan Oakes in the other semi-final.

We wish all semi-finalists the best of luck this weekend and look forward to seeing who qualifies for the finals.

In the Ladies Club Championships, young Jia You is currently the player to beat, holding a 15-shot lead ahead of her final round this Sunday. She will need to endure the suspense until next Thursday, as the Thursday/Sunday format means remaining competitors still have one more round to complete.

  • Ladies B Grade: Misuk Lee currently holds a narrow lead.

  • Ladies C Grade: Jenny Chapman leads with one round remaining.

ENCOURAGE SHIELD

Congratulations to the Club’s two Encourage Shield sides who continued their strong form over the weekend! The White team recorded their second win in as many games, defeating St Michael’s 3.5–2.5 at Massey Park, while the Blue team also secured a victory, overcoming Stonecutters Ridge 4–2 at North Ryde.

Both teams currently sit atop their respective divisions and will look to maintain their winning streak this Sunday when they take on Oak Point and North Ryde at Castle Hill. Well done to both teams for their outstanding performance and the excellent manner in which they continue to represent the Club!
