Members are asked to register their attendance via the booking sheet below so that we can plan catering for the evening. We look forward to seeing you here.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

Club Championship qualifying begins tomorrow, Saturday 20th September, with the second round to follow on Saturday 27th September. We wish all competitors the very best of luck as they take part in this year’s event.

With the fairways in excellent condition, preferred lies were removed earlier this week, and the course will be set up in true championship fashion.

As always, we encourage members to be patient with one another – qualifying can bring a touch of pressure – but it’s important that everyone maintains their position in the field directly behind the group in front to ensure smooth pace of play for all.

SUNDAY 36 HOLE MIXED FOURSOMES

Members playing in Sunday's Mixed Foursomes are encouraged to fill out a pre-order form for their sandwich hut order before they begin their 1st round to ensure a quick turnaround for the start of the afternoon round. Pre-order forms will be placed in the Proshop within the Temporary Clubhouse.

GA HANDICAP RULE CHANGES

From 2 October 2025, when Golf Australia’s new digital platform goes live, member's GA Handicap will be calculated using updated Australian Rules of Handicapping in line with the World Handicap System. These updates will make handicaps fairer, more consistent, and more reflective of actual playing conditions.

The key changes are:

1. A new “Consistency Factor” for Daily Handicap calculations, supporting fairer competition and equity for all players.

2. Adjusted expected scores for holes not played, using statistical modelling.

3. A refined ’Daily Difficulty’ calculation (PCC), back-calculated to 1 January 2023.

Most golfers will see a small change to their GA Handicap on 2 October, projected to be less than 0.5 strokes on average, although some players may see a bigger adjustment based on their unique scoring history. For further details on the changes members should check out the Club website.

GOLF CONNECT ROLLOUT

Members are reminded that Golflink will be shut down from Sunday 28th September, with the new Golf Australia Connect system scheduled to go live between 2nd–10th October.

During this transition period, no handicapping will be possible, however Club competitions will continue to run with minimal interruption.

Members wishing to learn more about the new Golf Connect system can do so via the following link: Golf Australia Connect – Golfer Information Guide.

OUT OF BOUNDS REGISTER

Members are reminded that on holes where there is a risk of a stray ball striking a car, passerby, or property, the Club has a QR code reporting system in place to record such wayward shots.

It is important to note that members are not penalized or held personally liable for acknowledging a stray shot. However, for the Club to make an insurance claim for any resulting damage, our insurer requires us to provide the name of the member involved. The insurer may then contact the member to confirm the circumstances, but this process can only occur if the incident has been reported using the QR code system or by notifying the Pro Shop staff at the completion of your round.

We strongly encourage all members to report any time a ball is hit Out of Bounds, ensuring the Club is prepared with the necessary details should a claim arise.

CLUBHOUSE UPDATE

Members visiting the Club this week will have seen our volunteer crew and staff hard at work relocating furniture, memorabilia, and equipment to both the temporary clubhouse premises and storage containers at the greenkeeper’s shed. This process has progressed smoothly, and we anticipate relocating the bar and its services early next week.

Our kitchen team has also been busy deep cleaning equipment and appliances in preparation for their move into the food truck recently purchased by the Club for use during the development period. Set-up of this facility will begin next week, with the aim of being operational shortly thereafter. In the meantime, the sandwich hut will continue to provide for members’ needs over the weekend and early next week until the food truck is fully established.

While the food truck’s permanent location will be beside the temporary clubhouse, it will initially operate on the cart path between the men’s locker room and the putting green until utility trenching works are complete.

We greatly appreciate members’ patience as we work through these final phases of relocation and look forward to welcoming you into the new premises in the coming weeks. Those who have already been through will have noticed the outstanding efforts of John Carey, Joe Wahbe, and our wonderful team of volunteers and staff — our sincere thanks go to them all.

FROM THE COURSE

Rainfall for the week                                     0.0 mm
Rainfall for 2025                                        1036.5 mm

A great week of beautiful spring weather is having a positive impact on course conditions with playing surfaces responding just in time for this weekend’s Men’s Club Championships and Mixed Foursomes Championships.

With the removal of the preferred lies for the Championship’s, we have marked some weaker areas with blue paint as per previous years, and you have a choice of preferring your lie if your ball comes to rest within these areas. Signs will be placed on the tee of any hole where these blue-painted areas are in effect to notify players.

The scarifying of all tee pads was completed this week, and the tees were mown for the first time since Autumn to tidy up their appearance. We will continue to prepare tee complexes with insecticide applications for mites with a liquid fertilizer to try and stimulate some early season leaf growth to bring some color back into these playing surfaces.

We are back to mowing fairways twice a week with our staff operated mowers, and the robotic mowers are mowing their fairways at least 3 times a week. All roughs have been mown this week, and greenside sprinkler heads have been trimmed along with all the fairway bunker edges.

The greens were lightly dusted with sand on Monday morning, and this practice will continue on a weekly basis. Regular light topdressing helps produce truer and firmer putting surfaces by addressing the build-up of thatch over time. Reducing thatch allows water to infiltrate more effectively, improving overall turf health and resulting in better playing conditions year-round.

Our volunteers were on course Monday morning performing a bunker run in front of the competition players, fairway sprinkler heads were trimmed, drainage pits were trimmed and cleared, and they were heavily involved with the removal of lockers from the men’s and ladies locker rooms. Thank you, gentlemen, for an impactful morning’s work both on and off the course. Your assistance with these works is always very much appreciated.

Greens will be cut and rolled on Saturday morning and then cut again on Sunday. I will be setting pins on both mornings.

Happy Golfing
The Course Team.

TRENT CELEBRATES 20 YEARS

Congratulations to one of Oatlands Golf Club’s friendliest and most dedicated course team members, Trent Gawith, who celebrates 20 years of employment at the Club today.

Amazingly, Trent makes the daily commute from his home in Morisset, showing incredible commitment to the Club. He is a reliable and hardworking team member, responsible for mowing our greens and fairway surrounds most weeks (he practically owns the mower he’s pictured on!).

Trent is a passionate Raiders fan, so no doubt he’ll be cheering on his green machine this weekend.

Well done, Trent, on reaching such a wonderful milestone, and thank you for everything you do for the members of Oatlands Golf Club.

NAMING COMPETITION FOR AUTONOMOUS MOWERS

Course Superintendent Dom Yates is inviting members to help name the Club’s two new autonomous mowers!

Currently known as Ceora 1 and Ceora 2, these new ‘team members’ are waiting for their official names. Members can submit their suggestions via the Facebook post on the Club’s page.

The winning entries will each receive a Husqvarna merchandise pack, kindly provided by Aaron at Western Mowers.

ON-COURSE SAFETY

In recent weeks, we have received several reports of groups hitting while the group ahead was still within range. This is not only extremely dangerous but can also have serious insurance implications for the individual responsible.

While slow play can be frustrating, members are reminded to manage the situation appropriately by either:

  • Politely asking the group in front if you may play through, or

  • Calling the Pro Shop on (02) 9630 4444 to report any issues with pace of play.

We appreciate that the course can be busy at times, but encourage all members to remain mindful of their surroundings, show patience, and take the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful vistas and playing surfaces that come with being a member of Oatlands Golf Club.

CAPTAIN'S CUP

Congratulations to Mooyoung Chun, Pauline Fallance, Michelle Kelly, and Myeong Seon Kim on their success in the Captain’s Cup Quarter Finals yesterday. These four players will now compete next Thursday for a place in the final, which is scheduled for Thursday 9th October.

The Captain’s Cup is an 18-hole handicap stroke match play competition, played from the red tees, with the trophy generously donated by Mrs G.L. McNab in 1955.

The updated draw can be viewed below:

HP EVANS MATCH PLAY

Congratulations to our HP Evans Trophy finalists, Noel Bae and Chris Osterlund. Noel secured his place in the final after a nail-biting semi-final against Andrew Tohme, eventually prevailing on the 21st hole. Chris earned his spot with a strong 3 & 2 win over Peter Crawford.

The trophy was generously donated by H.P. (Phil) Evans, a left-hander and one of the Club’s foundation members. Phil served on the Committee from the Club’s inception until 1954, was Captain from 1941 to 1951, and was honored with Life Membership in 1951.
