The last of the greens were top
dressed on Monday with the unseasonal warm weather proving ideal for drying the
sand which allowed the rubbing-in process to be completed efficiently. Fertilizer and a lime amendment was applied on Tuesday which will help speed up the recovery process. Putting surfaces were rolled on Thursday afternoon to smooth surfaces out after the aeration process from last week.
All fairways have now been verti-drained with the topdressing of these surfaces started this week on the 13th, 14th and 17th fairways. This work will continue over the next few weeks, with fairways such as the 3rd and 4th to be left until the color in the leaf returns and new growth occurs on these surfaces. Typically,
all fairways receive a fertilizer application following aeration and
topdressing. However, this step will be delayed until the fairways dry out
sufficiently to withstand the irrigation needed to wash the fertilizer into the
soil.
Fairways that were dry enough have been mown twice this week, with these surfaces looking great after having a rest from play due to last week's course closure. Roughs have also been mown this week to tidy up their appearance, and green surrounds have been mown as well.
Most of our fabulous volunteers had the week off, as the course conditions
were too wet for any on-course tasks. However, a couple of dedicated members of
the group kept busy in the temporary clubhouse, completing jobs such as
painting the bollards and the archway over the front doors. Thank you for your
continued efforts and support, we are hopeful to have the full team back out on
the course this coming Monday.
With the interruption to green renovations, it has resulted in greens being at different stages of recovery with some having more sand on surfaces compared to others. For this reason, we wont be cutting greens this weekend so that we don't pick this sand up with the mowers which would blunt the blades very quickly.
Happy Golfing
The Course Team.
