FROM THE COURSERainfall for the week 18.5 mm Rainfall for 2025 1090.0 mm The course team have started solid needle tining greens this week with this work being performed before play to avoid disruption to club competitions. Performing the task this way does make it a longer process, so there will still be 2 or 3 greens to complete early next week. The needle tining has minimal impact on the actual putting surface once the green is rolled, but these small aeration holes/tunnels left behind following the needle tining improve moisture movement through the soil profile and allows air movement into the root zone for a healthier turf surface. Greens were dusted again this week on Tuesday morning. The dusting of the greens will be performed on alternative Mondays and Tuesdays to reduce the impact to Monday players. The new Dakota topdressing unit has an electric control screen with pre-set calibration settings for the amount of sand we want to apply, and these can be interchanged simply by the touch of a button making this task quicker and more accurate. The rainfall last week was very welcome and didn’t impact the Saturday Championship matches too much. The humid weather that has followed has certainly increased growth of the kikuyu on our fairways and roughs, with growth regulator applications continuing this week with the 4th, 6th and 13th holes completed, and the 8th and 9th holes started. A health Inspector from Parramatta Council visited the course this week to inspect the 14th pond, and it has been deemed by him to be a one off pollution event, with the club responsible for the clean-up despite coming from an outside source. We are awaiting a letter from council which will outline the clubs requirements regarding the clean-up and testing of the water. Course staff removed the dead eels this week and disposed of them, and the aerator has been turned back on to try and replenish the oxygen levels in the water. Our volunteers were on course this week performing a bunker run ahead of the competition players on Monday morning before assisting with the processing of the green waste along the side of the 16th hole. Other tasks completed included the trimming of the 6th tee hedge, repairs to the awning over the food truck, divotting of fairways on Thursday morning, and tee distance plate rejuvenation work. Thank you, gentleman, for your support once again this week. The banter amongst this group on a Monday morning is always great, as we tell each other about the successes we’ve had on the course in the past week such as holing a bunker shot on the 18th for a birdie which resulted in a shovel! Greens will be cut both mornings this weekend. Joel will be setting pins on Saturday with Gary setting them on Sunday. Happy Golfing The Course Team.
