Congratulations to the Club’s Master Pennant side, who secured a hard-fought draw against a very strong Castle Hill team over the weekend in the final match of the regular season.
The result proved pivotal in determining progression to the knockout stage, with Bankstown advancing by the narrowest of margins—just two individual matches. While our team narrowly missed out, they can be extremely proud of a successful season, finishing with three team wins and a draw.
Throughout the season, there were several standout performances. Peter Zann finished the campaign undefeated—an exceptional achievement showcasing his consistency. Charlie Kim made a significant impact both on and off the course, providing valuable contributions during matches and helping to motivate and unite the team each week.
A special thank you goes to Rod Butcher for his dedication in managing the team; his leadership has been instrumental in building a strong foundation for future success in 2026.
Well done to all involved on a competitive and spirited season.

FROM THE COURSE
The strong winds on Wednesday created quite a mess on the course and brought
down a few large limbs as well. The course team has spent the tail end of the
week tidying up the course as much as possible with the use of the blowers and
vacuum and cutting up and removing the fallen limbs.
The returfing of areas on fairways using turf from the 12th
fairway continued this week with areas on the 1st, 8th
and 13th cut out and replaced. The first storage container was
brought in on Friday morning, having to drive down behind the clubhouse and
around the putting, crossing the front of the proshop and unloading between the
1st tee and proshop. The transport truck then exited the course via
the 1st fairway and 8th flyover, and down Oatlands House
driveway. Whilst there are some minor wheel marks in places, the delivery
hasn’t impacted surfaces at all. The 2nd container is being
delivered on Monday morning, hopefully before the rain arrives so that surfaces
remain firm and only the minor wheel marks are all that is made. The course
team will verti drain these areas to speed up the required recovery.
I attended the Australian Sports Turf Managers Association (ASTMA)
conference this week held at Homebush, which see’s turf managers from across
Asia come together for a week of learning, sharing and networking. The club was
focussed in one of the environmental sessions, with Professor Ricky Spencer
highlighting the recent turtle program that the club was involved in. I was
also interviewed by YouTuber Ben Sims, who owns the Lawn Tips channel, after
our recent trial of the Husqvarna robotic mowers.
The volunteers were on course Monday morning performing a
bunker run before the shotgun start, cleaning/trimming drainage pits, checking
and fixing OOB and hazard pegs, checking the practice nets, poisoning Crabgrass
in tee complexes, and the proshop work. Thank you to everyone that attended
this week to assist with the maintenance of the course.
Greens will be cut on both mornings this weekend. I will be
setting pins on Saturday and Garry will set them on Sunday.
Happy Golfing The Course Team.
TROPHY RESULTS
Ladies Fourball Handicap Knockout
Last weekend saw the Semi Finals of the Ladies Weekend Fourball Knockout played in fine conditions, with convincing wins recorded by the pairings of Misuk Lee & Soo Ha (4&3) and Anne Marie Wahbe & Lizzie Sorbara (3&1). These two teams will now face off in what promises to be a competitive and entertaining final this Sunday. We extend our best wishes to all competitors and look forward to sharing the results with members in next week’s edition.
The final matches of the Ladies Oatlands Cup and Long Markers Match Play were held on Thursday 26th June, marking the conclusion of two of the Club’s key women’s match play events for the year. In the Oatlands Cup Final, Jenny Park delivered an outstanding performance to claim victory over Leonie Guthrie with a 5&3 win. Meanwhile, in the Long Markers Final, Kam Chee Wong secured her title with a solid 4&2 win against Barbara Beasley.
Congratulations to both Jenny and Kam Chee on their well-earned victories, and to all players who took part in these events. Full results for both events can be found below.

OATLANDS GC SENIOR'S CUP
The Oatlands Senior Cup took place on Tuesday, 24th June. Despite early rain that threatened to interrupt play, conditions soon cleared and the sun came out, providing excellent conditions for a competitive day of golf. The star of the show was our own Charlie Kim who fired a near perfect round of 67 (-3) to finish four shots clear of runner up Denis Gallagher (Oak Point GC).
The over 65’s scratch event was won by Ken Brewer (Newcastle GC) with a fine score of 74 whilst Phil Langdon took out the Nett prize with a nett 72. The overall Nett prize was won by Campbell Robertson (68), with Blair McDonald finishing runner up (71).
The presentation at the end of play was filled with praise for the condition of the course and greens by visiting players and even those who went home without a prize left with a smile after an enjoyable day of golf.
Congratulations to all the winners, we hope to see another strong field out next year.
