OFFICE RELOCATION &
NO CASH PAYMENTS

In conjunction with this week’s course closure for green renovations, staff and volunteers have successfully relocated the Club office and administration team to the temporary Clubhouse. Members seeking assistance or advice should now visit the temporary facility, as the existing office space is no longer attended.

With this move, the Club will no longer be accepting cash payments. This decision has been made to remove the security risk of storing cash in the temporary premises. While we understand that some members may still use cash in everyday life, it is important to note that cash sales have represented less than 3% of all transactions in the Clubhouse this year. We believe this change is both reasonable and necessary to ensure the safety and security of our team members.

At the same time, the Club's phone system has been upgraded as part of this relocation.  The menu options have been refreshed, however to speak to the Pro Shop members should still just “Press 1”. A new feature allows calls to be diverted to administration staff mobiles for easier access while we operate from the temporary facilities. If you see staff using their mobiles, they’re simply connected via the new system.

We appreciate your cooperation during this transition and look forward to continuing to provide the high level of service you expect.

PUTTING GREEN UPDATE

This week, approximately 50m² of turf was removed from the putting green and relocated to the new temporary putting green on the 18th tee. This relocation was planned in advance, as the same section of turf was due to be removed in coming weeks when the utility trench is dug through the green to service the temporary Clubhouse and Oatlands House.

With the turf now laid, the temporary putting green will continue to grow in over the coming months, with the aim of it being ready for play around the time the 18th green is removed as part of the development parcel. This early relocation gives the new surface the best chance to establish and ensures a consistent roll for members when it comes into use.

FROM THE COURSE

The Bureau predicted a wet week this week, and it was an accurate forecast (125mm), making it almost impossible to perform any renovation work to the course at times this week. Ideal weather conditions greeted the course staff on Monday morning, and the team made a strong start to the greens renovations, completing eleven greens before the rain arrived at lunchtime. Unfortunately, once the rain begins, it becomes impossible to rub the sand into the open aeration holes.

The sun was shining at lunchtime on Tuesday, and with only a small amount of rain falling during the morning, we decided to try and get a few more greens topdressed and aerated Tuesday afternoon. However, the sunshine was short-lived, and further rainfall limited progress to just three additional greens.

Whilst the rain has interrupted the topdressing of the greens, all remaining greens were aerated and will be topdressed once weather conditions improve. Depending on when this topdressing occurs, the aeration process may need to be repeated if the original aeration holes begin to close.

Renovation work on the fairways has continued, although topdressing has not yet been carried out. Despite the rain, the course staff have persevered and successfully aerated all fairways with the exception of the 2nd, 5th, 8th, and 10th. While the immediate visual benefits of aeration may not be apparent, the open holes will allow rainfall to penetrate the soil profile more effectively. This will help saturate the soil, so when temperatures rise through spring and into early summer, the fairways will be well-positioned to respond with strong healthy growth.

Herbicide applications for Winter Grass control in tee complexes, fairways and roughs were performed this week with the rainfall being utilized to help wash the product into the soil profile, enhancing root absorption and overall effectiveness. The effects of this application will start to show in the next 7 to 14 days with these weeds turning yellow initially before melting out as the weed dies.

Course staff also removed turf from the putting green so that the temporary putting green on the 18th tee could be finished. The turf on this temporary green will now be given time to establish before the team starts the process of levelling this surface out through topdressing and rolling practices. We ask that members avoid walking on the new surface when they are playing the 18th hole.

Our volunteers were once again at the club performing a range of tasks, with the planned drainage work in front of the new 7th/19th green during renovations having to be postponed until the weather conditions are more favorable. The restoration of the green, yellow and white plate markers has begun with cleaning and painting started. The awning out the front of the proshop has been cleaned, and on-going work in the temporary clubhouse was also performed. The volunteers also assisted with the relocation of items from the clubhouse down to the temporary clubhouse facility. Thank you gentlemen for your assistance this week, and for being flexible with your time during the weather impacted renovation period.

Given the ongoing rain and its impact on the course, the difficult decision has been made to close the course over the weekend. With improved conditions expected, we are hopeful of being able to complete the final green renovations on Sunday.

Happy Golfing
The Course Team.

LOCKER ROOM CLEAR OUT

Members are reminded to please clear their lockers by Saturday, 31 August, ahead of the removal of the lockers. From early September, staff and volunteers will move lockers and memorabilia into secure storage, so all lockers must be completely emptied. Those unable to visit before the deadline can contact the office to arrange assistance. Members who pay for locker hire will receive a pro-rata credit for the remaining seven months of the billing cycle.

FAREWELL TO CLUBHOUSE

It was wonderful to see close to 250 members at the Club last Saturday night for the Farewell to Clubhouse function. The evening provided a special opportunity for members to reminisce and share stories of the many memorable times and experiences enjoyed in the Clubhouse over the years.

Entertainment was provided by the talented QC Collective band, whose music and vocals set the tone for a lively night. Guests also enjoyed speeches from Club President Colin McRae, Operations Chair Stephanie Monaghan, and long-standing members Richard Granger, Judith Leeds-Roberts, and Rod Ruston, each reflecting on the special times experienced in the Clubhouse.

The aim of the evening was to encourage socializing and dancing, and this was certainly achieved — the dance floor was busy all night, while members also moved around the room to connect with friends both old and new.

Feedback from the night has been overwhelmingly positive, with many members remarking that it was among the most well-attended functions they’ve seen at the Club.

FINAL BISTRO 94 EVENING

Tonight marks the final Bistro 94 dining event ahead of our move into the temporary Clubhouse.

Our food and beverage offerings, along with the numbers we can cater for, will be finalized once the move is complete. What has been clear, however, is that the Bistro 94 concept has been a great success, helping to showcase the Club and its services not only to members and their guests, but also to the wider local community.

We sincerely thank all members who have supported Friday night dining throughout the year, and we look forward to introducing some exciting new food and beverage offerings once we are established in the temporary Clubhouse.

FINAL BETTINGTON RESTAURANT
(FULLY BOOKED)

We are pleased to confirm that next Wednesday evening’s Bettington Restaurant is now fully subscribed, with 115 members booked in to attend. While we are unable to continue this concept in its current format in the temporary Clubhouse, it has been extremely pleasing to see how well supported these evenings have been by our members.

The Bettington Restaurant has given our kitchen team the chance to experiment with new cuisines and flavors, offering something different from our regular Clubhouse or Bistro 94 dining. We look forward to welcoming those attending on Wednesday for the final formal Bettington evening—at least until the new Clubhouse is complete.

WS TARGETT MATCH PLAY

Congratulations to Rob Bechara Jnr & Lisa Bechara, who claimed the WS Targett Matchplay knockout today with an impressive 3&2 victory over Charlie Kim and Kate Choi.

The WS Targett Trophy holds a special place in the Club’s history, having been donated by Bill Targett, who joined Oatlands in 1956 and was elected to Committee the same year. Bill served as Captain from 1960–1962, President from 1967–1969, and was honored with Life Membership in 1979.

Well done to Rob and Lisa on their outstanding performance!
