Rainfall for the week 16.0 mm
Rainfall for 2025 1069.5 mm
Members will have noticed a foul smell coming from the pond on the 14th
hole for the past week which we believe is the result of some illegally dumped
product into one of the drainage pits in the car park of Oatlands House. The
local council (City of Parramatta) has been notified of this matter and are investigating the matter. The product seems to have depleted the oxygen from
the water and unfortunately several eels have died because of this pollution.
We will keep members updated on the progress of this investigation.
The 16mm of rain that fell on Wednesday was very timely and has been of
great benefit to the course. We have seen a slight rise in the dam level with
good runoff from the surrounding roads and storm water system. Members playing
on Wednesday will have noticed that the greens puddled up quickly when the rain
fall was heavier, and this is a result of the regular rolling of greens over
the past 4 to 6 weeks due to the championship’s. We are planning to needle tine
all greens over the next week or two to relieve this compaction which will in
turn improve surface infiltration rates.
The course is looking great and playing surfaces will be primed for Championship
Saturday. Greens were dusted this week with our new topdressing unit, and a
growth regulator application will be made to greens on Friday morning to tighten
up putting surfaces for the weekend. We have received lots of positive comments
about the course lately which is always appreciated by the course staff.
Our volunteers were on course this week and performed a bunker run before the
competition players on Monday morning before replacing one of the practice
nets, trimming fairway sprinkler heads, putting out more fly traps around the
course, and work in the temporary clubhouse. Fairway divotting was performed on
Thursday morning, and Scott Whittaker assisted with the digging up of some
broken irrigation wires in the temporary car area on Tuesday afternoon. Thank you
gentlemen for another productive week, your assistance is always very much
appreciated.
Greens will be cut and rolled on Saturday morning, and then cut again on Sunday morning. I will be setting pins on Saturday and Caleb will be setting them on Sunday morning.
Happy Golfing
The Course Team.
