Course staff have had another busy week, focusing
mainly on course setup and general maintenance. Light showers most nights have
kept conditions damp underfoot, but overall, the course is in excellent
condition.
Soil temperatures are starting to reduce with the
colder weather we have been experiencing, which has meant our deciduous trees
on the course have started dropping their leaves which can create quite a mess.
The blowers and vacuums have been used this week to keep on
top of this debris, while rough has also been cut this week to assist in finding stray golf balls.
Kikuyu weed spraying continued in couch collars and
Zoysia bunker surrounds where possible between periods of rainfall.
Bare or scarred areas on the 1st, 3rd, and 6th
greens were plugged out this week, and leaking
sprinklers on the 4th green, 5th tee, 6th fairway, and nursery green have been repaired.
Our wonderful volunteers were in again on Monday and
Tuesday, helping clean out storage rooms in the clubhouse and the
pro shop. Fairway divotting was performed on Thursday, and the roses were given
their weekly trim. Thank you, gentlemen—your help is greatly
appreciated by course staff and your fellow members.
The new practice hole is progressing well. The green
is currently being cut at 4mm three times a week, and the couch surround is being cut weekly.
The 19th green is developing a little more slowly
due to being in shade most of the day. It is expected
to receive its first cut on Monday at 8mm, with the height to be lowered by 1mm
each week until it reaches the target greens height of 3mm. The 19th surrounds
and tee are also being cut weekly.
Greens will be cut both mornings this weekend and rolled on Sunday
morning. Garry will be setting pins on Saturday with Caleb setting them on
Sunday morning.
Happy Golfing
The Course Team.
