23rd MAY 2025

CAPTAIN'S CORNER

Due to the ongoing rain this week and the resulting course conditions, the Match Committee has made the decision to reschedule this weekend’s 36-hole Foursomes Championships to Saturday, 31st May. The Doug Spurway Memorial Trophy event that was to be played on 31st May will be moved to a later date.

The existing timesheet will be cloned for the new date, meaning all players currently booked for this weekend will automatically be transferred to the 31st. We will aim to have this timesheet re-open at midday for Members to make any necessary changes.

Unfortunately the course will continue to be closed tomorrow and a decision on play for Sunday will be made during the day tomorrow. Please note that motorised carts will be unavailable across the weekend due to the waterlogged course.

We appreciate your understanding and hope this decision allows more members to participate, particularly those who would have been impacted by the cart restrictions.

 JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT FUNDRAISER GOLF DAY

At Oatlands Golf Club, we take great pride in fostering the next generation of golfers through our Junior Development Program. Whether they’re picking up a club for the first time or striving to compete at the highest levels, our junior players are the future of both our Club and the game we all love.

To keep this vital program thriving, we invite members to consider making a tax-deductible donation to the Junior Development Fund. Every contribution helps provide coaching, equipment, competition entry, and the support our young athletes need to progress and excel.

Thanks to our partnership with the Australian Sports Foundation (ASF), donations of $2 or more made via our dedicated project page are fully tax-deductible. You'll receive an official receipt from the ASF to use with your tax return—just in time for end-of-financial-year planning.

Your support makes a real difference, and there's no better time to give back.

PENNANT UPDATE

Interclub Pennants

The Interclub Challenge team were back in action last Sunday after a two week gap due to Mother's Day. While they were set to take on Killara at NSW Golf Club, they also had to contend with the elements on a day that started with heavy rain that delayed the start time and turned into an extremely windy challenge by the late morning when play eventually began.

The team put up a great fight and deservedly came out with a strong win of 5.5 to 2.5 with a special mention going to Joey Karam who came in at late notice to fill in a vacant spot in the team and recorded a 1up victory.

After the half against Pymble in the opening round, the team is now 2nd in their section and have a home game against NSW Golf Club this Sunday 25th of May. A win or half would guarantee them a spot in the sectional final and we wish them the best of luck!

FOURSOMES CHAMPIONSHIPS

As we gear up for another exciting edition of the Foursomes Championships next week, it's worth reflecting on the proud history behind two of our most prestigious events – the Don Foreman Foursomes Championship (Gross) and the Dick Peet Foursomes Championship (Nett).

The Gross event, first played in 1934, has stood the test of time as a true test of teamwork and consistency. In 2012, it was renamed to honor Don Foreman, a stalwart of the Club who served as Captain (1999–2003) and President (2004). Don was a dedicated competitor, representing the Club in Major Pennants, Masters Pennant, and Super Seniors, and he won the Foursomes alongside Tony Steele in 2001 and 2002.

The Nett event, officially titled the Dick Peet Foursomes Championship, has been played since 2006, with the trophy donated by Life Member Dick Peet in 2016. Dick’s contribution to the Club is equally impressive—Captain from 2004 to 2007, President from 2008 to 2011, and Life Member since 2014. The first winners of this event were Bobin Kang and Michael Skinner.

These Championships represent not only high-level competition but also the rich legacy of leadership, sportsmanship, and club spirit.

TEMPORARY PRO SHOP

We’re pleased to announce that the Club Pro Shop has successfully relocated to its temporary home in the Clubhouse—and it’s now fully operational as of Tuesday!

This move was made possible thanks to the tremendous support and hard work of our dedicated team of volunteers, who gave their time and energy to assist Jeremy and his team in moving stock, displays, and fittings from the original shop premises. Their efforts have been invaluable, and both the Club and Jeremy’s team are deeply grateful for the incredible show of community spirit.

The temporary Pro Shop will continue to offer all the same products and services you’ve come to rely on, including equipment, apparel, and expert advice. Members are reminded that check-in for both competition and social play is now required at the new temporary location.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this transition and encourage you to drop in and see the new setup next time you're at the Club.

FROM THE COURSE

Following 25mm of rain overnight Sunday into Monday, course staff were met with very wet conditions but did an excellent job restoring bunkers and preparing the course. Despite ongoing showers, most playing surfaces—including fairways, tees, surrounds, and rough—were successfully mown. Herbicide spraying for kikuyu has been paused due to wet conditions and the risk of runoff.

With limited access to rough and fairways, staff focused on trimming sprinkler heads, tree bases, and bunker edges, and assisted with garden clean-up. The 19th green received its first cut at 8mm and will be gradually brought down to match the main greens, which are currently being mown at 4mm and transitioning to 3mm.

A huge thanks to our amazing volunteers for their clean up of the Pro Shop into a temporary clubhouse and to casual staff Riley, Josh, and Tom for their help with trenching work. Greens will be cut both mornings this weekend, with Dominic setting pins Saturday and Garry on Sunday.

Happy Golfing
The Course Team.
