20TH JUNE 2025

Club Storage Update

In preparation for the Clubhouse Development, the Club has arranged for the delivery of two shipping containers to store member's bags and buggies. Delivery is scheduled for Friday 27th June and Tuesday 1st July.

As the current number of buggies on-site is expected to exceed the storage capacity of these containers, members are kindly requested to take their bags and / or buggies home if possible to help ease storage limitations. The containers will be placed on the concrete footings recently prepared beside the temporary Clubhouse (former Pro Shop).

To ensure member safety and minimize disruption to golf during delivery, play on these days will be from the 12th tee.

Due to the size and weight of the truck and containers, it is likely that some damage may occur to the edges of the putting green and the right-hand side of the 1st fairway during delivery. Course staff will implement measures to limit such damage, however any affected areas will be marked as GUR (Ground Under Repair), with repairs to follow in the coming weeks.

We appreciate member's understanding during this process and further updates on the development will be provided in the coming weeks.

Regards

Rob Blain
General Manager

PENNANT UPDATE

Master Pennants

Commiserations to the Club’s Master Pennant team, who were narrowly defeated by a strong Castle Hill side at their home course over the weekend. Despite the 5.5 – 2.5 score line, two of the losses came on the 18th green and, along with the halved match, the result could easily have swung in Oatlands’ favor.

The team remains in contention for a place in the knockout stage, with a win this weekend and favorable results from other matches potentially securing their progression.

We wish the team the best of luck for this weekend’s crucial home match and will be watching the outcome of the Bankstown vs Manly fixture with close anticipation.

Women's Bronze III Pennant

Commiserations to our Ladies Bronze III team who were defeated 4–1 by Roseville last week at Monash Golf Club.

Despite the result, the team put in a strong effort and will take plenty of positives into this week’s match against Mona Vale at Wakehurst on Friday.

We wish the team all the best for this and their remaining matches. Members can follow the team’s progress via the link below:

FROM THE COURSE

The course team has continued to strip the 12th fairway this week to reuse this turf on thin/worn/damaged parts of other fairways around the course. This week we turfed over the recent drainage behind the 6th green and sections on the 13th fairway near the green. Whilst this method is more labor intensive than unloading it from a pallet supplied from the turf farm, it is a cost saving and the turf will blend into these fairway areas quicker as it is already being mown at the correct height.

Pigment has been applied to all tee pads this week to provide a color contrast to the tee surrounds. The recent herbicide applications for winter grass in the tee complexes were concentrated mainly on the surrounds, as it was anticipated that the herbicide used would send the turf into an earlier dormancy. A different herbicide has been applied this week to control winter grass weeds in collars, aprons and bunker surrounds on holes 11, 13, 16, and the chipping green. Maintaining adequate soil moisture for 14 days following the application of this herbicide is essential to achieve effective weed control. To ensure this, staff will hand-water the treated areas as needed during this period.

The colder nights and mornings this week have certainly made it feel like winter, with frost present on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. The deciduous trees continue to make a mess of the course but the vacuum and tow behind blower have been busy towards the end of the week, working in unison by blowing the leaf debris out from under the tree canopies towards the fairways so that the vacuum is able to pick it up much quicker without the hassle of driving in and out of the trees.

The 19th green continues to improve each week despite the challenge of the colder weather. A bird deterrent has been installed to keep the ducks off this surface in a nice way. A sensor in this device detects the ducks and emits a variable ultrasonic frequency to deter the ducks without harming them. Sand will be added to the bunkers on this hole over the next week with depths checked to ensure proper coverage over the lining. The block wall around the pipe at the top of the pond has been constructed this week, with backfilling and turfing to complete this area.

The volunteers were on course Monday morning completing a bunker run in front of the competition players, cleaning/trimming drainage pits, checking the practice nets and poisoning Crabgrass in tee complexes. Thank you to everyone that attended this week to assist with the maintenance of the course. Your help is always much appreciated and valued by the course team.

Greens will be cut both mornings this weekend and I will be setting the pins on Saturday and Sunday.

Happy Golfing
The Course Team.

OATLANDS GC SENIOR'S CUP

Entries have now closed for the 2025 Oatlands Senior Cup, which will be contested on Tuesday 24th June. A strong field of ninety golfers from more than forty different clubs will take to the course in what promises to be a competitive and enjoyable day.

Remarkably, the Cup has not been won by an Oatlands member since 2018, and several of our Masters Pennant representatives will be aiming to end that drought and etch their name on the trophy.

A limited number of spots remain available in Tuesday’s field for Oatlands members and we encourage any eligible members interested in playing to contact the Pro Shop as soon as possible.

We look forward to crowning the 2025 Oatlands Senior Cup Champion on Tuesday afternoon. The full draw can be viewed via the link below:

WIL REECE WINS THE SOUTHPAW CUP

A huge congratulations to Wil Reece, who continued his reign over the Oatlands Golf Club Southpaw Cup with a commanding victory on the weekend, claiming the title for an incredible fifth consecutive year. Wil’s superb even-par round saw him finish six shots clear of the field, further cementing his status as the player to beat in this annual event celebrating left-handed golfers.

Runner-up Craig Millen also had plenty to be proud of. While he narrowly missed out on the Cup, his round of 76 (six over par) off a handicap of 9 earned him the Nett prize, as well as the win in A Grade for the overall competition of the day. It was a strong performance in a quality field and a well-deserved reward for Craig’s consistency.

The ladies played their annual Grandmothers Trophy event on Monday 16th June and despite the cold start to the morning and tough scoring conditions, Kim Lim was the winner with 38 points, the only player to break their handicap on the day.

Congratulations to Kim on a great round and your newly acquired silverware.
