MID-WEEK STORM

Wednesday’s storm was a stark reminder of the importance of being aware of both the weather and your surroundings while on the course. As per the Club’s Inclement Weather Policy, members should always make decisions in the interests of their own safety and cease their round if they believe their wellbeing is at risk.

During the storm, several of our members were extremely fortunate when seeking shelter from the wind and rain under the large gum tree behind the 5th green. A large branch broke off and severely damaged the carts they were sitting in. It was only their quick reflexes that allowed them to escape serious injury.

The storm dispersed widespread debris across the course, forcing the Club to close yesterday so that staff and volunteers could assist with the clean-up and repair any damage. The sheer volume of fallen branches and other material has temporarily been stored beside the 15th tee until a wood chipper can be sourced for mulching.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our course team, club staff, and wonderful volunteers for their efforts in helping with such a speedy and thorough clean-up.

Photos showing the aftermath of the storm and the clean-up efforts can be found below.

TEMPORARY LOCAL RULES

In light of the severe storm earlier this week and its impact on the course, the following temporary local rules will be in place over the weekend. These will remain until our arborist can safely remove the large hanging branches and the debris piles can be mulched and cleared.

• Holes 2 & 17 Closed
Both the 2nd and 17th holes are closed for both social and competition play. The Club sought advice from Golf NSW's rules team and for all competition play, players are to record 2 stableford points for each of these holes during this period that the holes are out of play.

• Safety Exclusion Zone – Holes 2 & 17
Members must avoid walking or driving up the left-hand side of both holes when moving to the 3rd or 18th tees. Our arborist has advised that the damaged branch could fall even in light wind, and this precaution is essential for everyone’s safety.

• Debris Pile Beside the 15th Tee – GUR (No Play Zone)
The debris pile near the 15th tee is deemed Ground Under Repair as temporary greenkeeping work. Players are entitled to free relief under Rule 16.1b at the nearest point of complete relief, no nearer the hole.

• General Safety Reminder
We encourage all members to remain cautious and observant when moving around the course, particularly near or under trees. After a destructive storm, there is always a heightened risk of partially broken branches falling later, especially during windy conditions. If you notice any dangerous or hanging branches during your round, please report them to the Pro Shop or course staff immediately.

 DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

Further demolition work on the old clubhouse site continued this week, with the majority of building materials now removed from the site. Wednesday’s storm had minimal impact on this work, with the only disruption being the reinstatement of the construction fencing after being battered by the strong winds.

The temporary car park is largely complete and awaiting Council sign-off before being officially handed over to the Club. Some finishing works remain, including boundary levelling, additional line marking for disabled and standard spaces, and completion of the cart/pedestrian path. These are expected to be finalized next week.

The Club is also sourcing quotes for fencing behind the 18th green and along the right-hand side of the 13th tee to protect vehicles in the car park. QR codes will be installed on these holes to assist with tracking any stray shots that may leave the course once the fencing is in place.

On the course, the team has now turfed the northern end of the putting green where utility trenching was installed. They also took the opportunity to turf the water and gas drainage lines near the 1st tee as well as some other areas of the course as detailed in Dom's report below.

A separate email will be sent to members announcing the opening of the temporary car park, along with instructions for entry and exit to the site.

FROM THE COURSE

Rainfall for the week 33.0mm
Rainfall for the year 1125.5mm

A mixed bag for the course team this week with the laying of new turf around the course, aerating and topdressing of the 8th fairway, and the big clean-up after Wednesday's cyclonic storm.

New turf was installed on Wednesday morning across several areas of the course, including the track between the 8th and 9th holes, the putting green, the trench area beside and in front of the 1st tee, and the end of the Geohex path through the 9th flyover. The course team did an excellent job laying all 800 m² of turf quickly, allowing us to begin irrigation immediately. Because the rolls were cut on the farm the previous afternoon, they arrived with a significant amount of heat trapped inside, so getting water on them straight away was essential. While some sections may look scorched at present, we will maintain consistent irrigation until the new roots establish firmly in the soil. The turf is expected to establish quite quickly.

The 8th fairway was aerated this week and received a generous topdressing of sand, which will help several areas recover and knit together to achieve full, healthy coverage. Preferred lies will be available on this fairway for the next week. This topdressing also allowed us to clear one of the storage bays at the maintenance facility, making space for a new delivery of bunker sand so we can begin adding sand to bunkers as needed.

As members are aware, Wednesday afternoon’s storm hit the course with significant force, bringing down numerous branches and snapping a large gum tree near the 2nd green. The fallen tree is now lodged in an adjacent tree, creating a highly unstable and dangerous situation. Our arborist has assessed the site and advised that this is as hazardous as storm-damaged trees get. A 65-tonne crane will be required to safely remove the hanging sections from both trees. The earliest availability for this work is early next week. Until the removal is complete, the 2nd and 17th holes will remain closed. Members are asked to stay well clear of this area when playing in the meantime for their safety.

While the clean-up is still ongoing, the course staff have made every effort to remove the larger debris, which has now been stockpiled near the 15th tee area and on the mulch area below the 2nd tee. These stockpiles will need to be processed manually over the coming weeks. Leaf debris has been, and will continue to be, blown from fairways and tee complexes before being collected with the tractor vacuum.

Our volunteers were on the course Monday morning performing a bunker run in front of the competition players, trimming and clearing drainage pits, trimming fairway sprinkler heads, and edging paths. This group of overachievers were again asked if they could help with the clean-up of the storm debris on Thursday, and many of them were only too happy to put their hand up to support the course staff and their golf club. Paula Skelton also volunteered several hours collecting and disposing of debris, and whilst not volunteering, Rob Blain, Grant Lomas, and Jeremy Ward also assisted all day on Thursday while the course was closed. Thank you to everyone who volunteered or assisted on the course this week; your help and support is very much appreciated.

Greens will be cut on both mornings this weekend. I will be setting pins on Saturday morning, and Caleb will be setting them on Sunday morning.

Happy Golfing
The Course Team.

LADIES SUMMER FOURSOMES DRAW

Wednesday’s storm resulted in the course being closed on Thursday, the day the Summer Cup quarter finals were due to be held. As a result, the quarter finals have been deferred to Monday, 1 December. The semi finals and final will now be played on Thursday, 4 December and Monday, 8 December, respectively.

We wish all remaining pairs the very best of luck, and the updated draw can be found below.

DRESS CODE

It has been noticed recently that there has been a rise in instances of members and guests not fully complying with the Club’s dress code (pictured right). In particular, we’ve observed an increasing number of male golfers with shirts untucked, as well as some attire that does not meet the standards expected by the Board and the broader membership.

To assist everyone, management has positioned the dress code more prominently around the temporary clubhouse and has asked staff to kindly—but firmly—remind anyone whose attire falls outside the guidelines. These conversations are never pleasant for staff or members, and our hope is to minimize them through awareness and cooperation.

We encourage all members to familiarize themselves with the Club’s dress code and to share it with any guests they bring along. By doing so, we can ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone upon check-in and maintain the standards that reflect our Club’s values.

CHRISTMAS THEME DRESS CODE

On a lighter note, and in the spirit of the season, the Board warmly encourages all members to embrace some festive fun by wearing Christmas attire for the final Saturday (20th) and Wednesday (24th) competitions before Christmas.

This idea was inspired by the enthusiasm shown by our lady members for their Finals Day, where reindeer, angels, cowgirls, and all manner of festive outfits brought color and cheer to the course. We’d love to see that same spirit spread across the Club.

Members are encouraged to get their fourball together and start planning what you—and your playing partners—might wear on the day. It’s a great opportunity to share a laugh, celebrate the year, and finish the season in true festive style.

CAPTAIN v PRESIDENTS

The Men’s Captain’s vs President’s Golf Day will be held on Saturday, 6th December, with both AM and PM shotgun starts. Each 4BBB pair is entered in either the Presidents or the Captains team and will play a 4BBB stableford match against their playing opponents. Each winning pair will be allocated 1 point for their team, or ½ point for a halved match, with the winning team being the one with the most points at the conclusion of the day.

In conjunction with this event, the Club will also host the Annual Trophy Presentation, recognizing the winners of the Club’s 2025 trophy events. This year, the presentation will be less formal than in previous years, with awards presented following both the morning and afternoon shotgun starts for winners in attendance.

We look forward to a great day of friendly competition and celebration.

CHRISTMAS CHEER

On Wednesday, 10th December, the Club will host the Annual Christmas Cheer Competition, with both AM and PM shotgun starts. In keeping with tradition, prizes will be Christmas hams rather than standard competition vouchers. Due to the limited capacity of the temporary clubhouse and the typically high attendance on this day, members do not need to be present in the clubhouse to claim their prize. Winners may instead collect their ham from the Bar staff over the following week.

The Women’s Christmas Cheer Day will follow on Thursday, 11th December. For this event, winners must be present in the Club after their round to collect their hams, helping maintain the festive atmosphere. The clubhouse is expected to comfortably accommodate those participating.

Our final Christmas Cheer event will be held on Sunday, 14th December, where winners of the day’s competition will also receive a Christmas ham—offering plenty of opportunities for members to secure a delicious contribution to their Christmas lunch or dinner this festive season.
