Rainfall for the week 3.0 mm
Rainfall for 2025 1053.5 mm
A short but busy week for
the team on the course this week. The fine and sunny weather conditions continue,
and members may have noticed more run on the fairways and rough as these
surfaces firm up. The greens are also firmer than they were a few weeks ago due
to regular maintenance practices such as the weekly dusting and rolling. A soil
penetrant application made to all greens recently has ensured irrigation and
rainfall infiltrates through the putting surface and sub-soils instead of being
caught up and sitting near the surface.
The team spent a few hours
moving sand around in bunkers to ensure that the cloth lining is well covered. Sand
in the bunkers gets moved around through play and golfers raking the bunkers
after their shots. With sand often being raked to the back or entry point of
the bunkers as the golfer exits the bunker, course staff have to routinely push
the sand back in from these exit points and move sand into hollowed out areas at
the base of the high faces. Staff dragged sand down off these high faces as the
sand accumulates on them through play as players splash the ball out of the
bunker.
All other areas of the
course have been mown this week and the blowers and vacuum have been busy
tidying up leaf debris from the strong winds which swept through on Wednesday
evening. Fertiliser applications to fairways are generating some increased
growth, and a combination granular fertiliser/insecticide/herbicide application
to tee complexes will be completed next week.
With growth on fairways and
roughs increasing we will start applying a small amount of regulator to these
areas to ensure playing conditions remain similar between each mowing cycle,
particularly over weekends. A residual insecticide will be added to the tank
mix which will provide season long control of African Black Beetle, Argentinian
Scarab, and Billbug. A pre-emergent herbicide will also be added to provide
control of Summer Grass and Crabgrass weeds during the growing season.
Our volunteers had a
well-earned week off this week, due to the public holiday falling on Monday.
Greens
will be cut on Saturday morning and cut and rolled on Sunday morning. Garry
will be setting pins on Saturday and I will be setting them on Sunday.
Happy Golfing
The Course Team.
