We are extremely pleased to announce that Binah Constructions has been appointed as the successful tenderer for the construction of the new clubhouse and residential development at Oatlands Golf Club. Binah is a highly regarded, Australian-owned builder with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality residential and commercial projects. Their proven track record includes major developments in the Hills District, Edmondson Park, Bowen Hills, and the new Western Sydney University campus in Liverpool, as well as several large-scale projects currently underway across NSW and Queensland.

Binah brings more than two decades of industry experience and holds a Gold Star iCIRT rating, reflecting excellence in quality, safety, capability, and reliability. Their work is characterized by strong project management, high standards of construction, and an ongoing commitment to delivering projects on time and on budget. Binah has expressed enthusiasm for partnering with Oatlands and Levande, noting the importance of creating a long-lasting, well-designed clubhouse and residential community that complements the character of the Club and its surrounding landscape.

The Club and Levande are confident that with the expertise and professionalism of Binah now on board, the project is in excellent hands, and we look forward to Binah commencing work early in the new year.

 DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

The temporary car park opened successfully on Monday with minimal disruption, and the new arrangements appear to be working well, with the facility easily accommodating Wednesday’s double shotgun of 180 players with space to spare. Additional signage for the entry and exit points will be installed shortly to help reduce any confusion, and members are reminded that the entryway is at the bottom of the hill (126 Bettington Road), while the exit further up the hill is a no right turn out of the site.

The Club has received several quotes for the fencing of the car park and will coordinate with the selected supplier for installation as soon as possible. In the meantime, a special thank you to our wonderful volunteers who assisted in installing netting and mesh on the temporary fencing as an interim measure. Please note that this construction-style fencing is prone to falling in high winds, so we will keep the parking spaces closest to the fence clear to avoid any risk of damage to vehicles.

12th Hole Fencing: Construction fencing was erected behind the 12th green yesterday to allow Chalouhi to begin clearing the area behind this green. Members should note that this fencing will be replaced in due course with Color bond fencing to provide separation between the construction works and the course. In the interim, the current fencing will remain in place to clearly delineate the boundary of the site.

Our new Temporary Car Park opened on Monday 8th December.

TEMPORARY CAR PARK - OUT OF BOUNDS

With the opening of the temporary car park on Monday, members are advised of a new local rule regarding balls struck into this area. The temporary car park, located behind the 18th green and adjacent to the 13th hole, is to be treated as out-of-bounds. Under the Rules of Golf, players whose ball enters the car park must proceed under the penalty of one stroke and replay from the original spot (Rule 18.2d). The boundary of the temporary car park will be clearly marked with white / black stakes and members are reminded to report any balls struck into the car park to assist the club with any potential insurance claims.

If the construction fencing itself interferes with a player’s stance or area of intended swing, relief may be taken under Rule 16.1 (Abnormal Course Condition), allowing free relief within one club-length of the nearest point of complete relief, no nearer the hole.

RETIREMENT OF
JUSTICE IAN HARRISON

Oatlands Golf Club congratulates member Justice Ian Harrison on his recent retirement and recognizes his remarkable service to the State’s highest court. First sworn in as a Judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales on 12 February 2007, and later appointed Judge of Appeal and Chief Judge of Common Law on 9 November 2023, Justice Harrison has concluded an exceptional judicial career marked by dedication, integrity, and distinction.

Having reached the statutory retirement age, his Honour will be appointed as an Acting Judge of Appeal from 1 February 2026, and after such a dedicated career, we hope this next stage allows him more time to devote to playing golf amongst his friends at Oatlands Golf Club. FOOD TRUCK OPERATION

Last weekend, with temperatures approaching 40°C, the scheduled President v Captains event was postponed, and many members sensibly chose either not to play or to seek early morning tee times to avoid the heat.

Unfortunately, even with portable air conditioning and ample ventilation, temperatures inside the food truck can exceed 50°C on such days due to both the ambient heat and the effects of the grill and other appliances.

With the health and wellbeing of our kitchen staff in mind, we are introducing a new guideline: the food truck will close if internal temperatures exceed 45°C. Before closing, staff will ensure there are sufficient sandwiches, wraps, and other options for those still on the course—some of which can be toasted in the Bar—so members still have access to dining options on these very hot summer days.

We greatly appreciate members’ support and understand the desire for refreshments, but this measure is necessary to protect the welfare of our dedicated team. We trust members will understand and respect the need for these precautions.

FROM THE COURSE

Rainfall for the week 3.0mm
Rainfall for the year 1128.5mm

The course managed to get through the hot Friday and Saturday weather conditions with no ill effects to the greens; however, turf areas above drainage lines on tee pads are showing signs of moisture stress. This is why we haven’t installed drainage in any of our newly constructed tees, such as the 2nd, new 7th, or new 12th. The existing drainage lines are functioning as intended, but they are removing moisture from the profile too efficiently, meaning the water isn’t remaining available long enough for the turf to use.

Edges of the fairways are also showing signs of moisture stress, especially around large tree bases, as the roots have encroached into the fairways chasing the moisture applied through the irrigation system. We are crossing our fingers that the predicted rainfall leading into and over the weekend actually arrives, as it would greatly assist in relieving the moisture stress in our tees and fairways.

Members will have noticed the new path installed from the temporary car park to the 1st tee area. This will help with wear management from both cart and foot traffic and will be particularly beneficial during wet weather. The course team is now preparing the sides of the path so new turf can be laid and blended seamlessly into the existing surrounds.

Leaf debris has covered the course most mornings this week, with the afternoon and evening wind changes causing this to occur. While the southerly changes bring some welcome cooling relief, the trees respond by shedding leaves and bark as part of their natural cooling process. Course staff have been busy on the blowers and vacuum all week to tidy up the course as much as possible. New fly traps have also been placed around the course after the initial season’s traps either filled up or dried out.

Our volunteers were on the course Monday morning clearing debris and raking bunkers before continuing to install the green, yellow, and white tee plates into the ground, replacing the original small tombstones. Drainage pits were also cleared and trimmed around in readiness for the predicted rainfall. Thank you once again, gentlemen, for a very productive morning’s work. Your dedication, energy, and willingness to pitch in make a tremendous difference, and the course team genuinely appreciates everything you do.

Greens will be cut on both mornings this weekend. Garry will be setting pins on Saturday morning, and I will be setting them on Sunday morning.

Happy Golfing
The Course Team.

CHRISTMAS THEME DRESS CODE

On a lighter note, and in the spirit of the season, the Board warmly encourages all members to embrace some festive fun by wearing Christmas attire for the final Saturday (20th) and Wednesday (24th) competitions before Christmas.

This idea was inspired by the enthusiasm shown by our lady members for their Finals Day, where reindeer, angels, cowgirls, and all manner of festive outfits brought color and cheer to the course. We’d love to see that same spirit spread across the Club.

Members are encouraged to get their fourball together and start planning what you—and your playing partners—might wear on the day. It’s a great opportunity to share a laugh, celebrate the year, and finish the season in true festive style.

LADIES SUMMER FOURSOMES

On Monday, the final of the Ladies Summer Foursomes was contested, with Jill Vale and Paula Skelton prevailing over Heidi Han and Rhonda Furini 3 & 1.

It was a closely fought match played in terrific spirit, with both pairs having opportunities to take the win. However, Jill and Paula held their nerve when it mattered most to claim victory.

Congratulations to our 2025 Summer Foursomes finalists and our 2025 Champions, Jill Vale and Paula Skelton!

GOLF NSW STATE MEDAL

Congratulations to Rosemary Jones, who contested the NSW Medal Final at Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club on Wednesday. Having progressed through the Metropolitan Final earlier in the year, Rosemary delivered an outstanding performance in the State Final, finishing 3rd with a superb nett score of 72 — a fantastic achievement for Rosemary personally and a proud moment for the Club.

Rosemary’s efforts were deservedly acknowledged by Ladies’ Captain Jill Vale during Thursday’s Christmas Cheer presentation. The final prize listings from the State Final can be found below:

12-Hole Format for Ladies 9-Hole Competitions in 2026

The Ladies Committee is pleased to announce a change to the weekly 9-hole competitions from the start of the new year. Beginning in January, the dedicated Monday and Thursday 9-hole tee times (from 8:25am) will now be played over 12 holes, following requests from several of our regular 9-hole competitors.

This change will enable participants to tee off the 1st, complete the full 12 holes back to the clubhouse, and have prizes awarded based on the 12-hole competition scores.

Based on advice from Mi-Club and Golf Connect, handicapping for these events will continue to be applied to the first 9 holes only. However, this new format offers an excellent opportunity for players to enjoy three additional holes of competitive golf each Monday and Thursday — all for the same competition fee and prize structure.

We hope this adjustment adds even more enjoyment and allows these ladies to continue enjoying their golf in the New Year.
