From the Course

Rainfall for the Week: 43.0mm Rainfall for 2020: 496.5mm   Dam: 95%   Green Speed: 9.5ft

The focus on the course this week has been on cutting grass as best we can before the rain on Wednesday / Thursday. The warm weather over the weekend did dry greens out somewhat in certain areas, but they have all recovered after the rainfall and cooler weather on Wednesday.

Sprinkler heads on greens and fairways have all been trimmed up this week. The sprinkler heads on fairways will be spot sprayed next week to keep them neat and tidy for several weeks. As planned, we have made a start to repairing the wheel tracks across the 12th and 15th flyovers. These areas still need final preparations to be completed before turf is laid, and the green plastic matting is placed down

We will also be repairing areas around greenside bunkers on holes 7, 8 and 16, similar to what was performed on the right hand side of the 10th hole. These areas always struggle to cope with wear and any hot weather, due to the fact that they have very little good growing medium. When the bunkers were re-built 10 or 12 years ago, the surrounding soils were used to shape the surrounds of the new bunkers, robbing the extended surrounds of its soil. We will be rotary hoeing these areas, adding fill soil and finishing them off with a good coverage of loam soil. This process will ensure that these areas perform much better all year round. We will start with the left hand side of the 16th green next week, and order the turf for this site and the flyovers all at once.

A bollard has been installed behind the clubhouse to stop vehicular access to the putting green area, as car’s have been seen driving over the edges of the new green. There is adequate room to drive golf carts and course machinery between the bollard and the herb garden, but we ask members to not try to attempt to drive their vehicles down to the Pro Shop area anymore.

The chipping green was needle tined this week and the putting green will be completed next week. This will help keep roots systems healthy and help the surfaces to drain water in to the soil profile. There was very little surface disruption which is very pleasing on a green so young, and indicates that it has a strong root system.

All areas of the course will be cut this week, with rough mowing concentrating on areas inside the tree lines.

Our volunteers were on the course on Monday, checking bunkers before the ladies competition, blowing fairways, repairing and cleaning the practice nets, trimming and cleaning drainage pits, edging pathways, trimming suckers from tree bases, painting the board room, clubhouse and Pro Shop maintenance, electrical work to our solar panels on the clubhouse roof and filling the wheel tracks on the 12th and 15th holes. A very productive day indeed and many thanks as always for your assistance!

Enjoy the weekend!

The Course Team.
