Important information about Novel Coronavirus Outbreak

As members would be aware, there has been an outbreak of a new human coronavirus originating in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China.

A small number of cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in NSW. To date there are no confirmed cases at Oatlands Golf Club.

In keeping with NSW Health guidance, our current advice is as follows:

  • If you have recently visited the Wuhan area of China, or have been in contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus, monitor your health. If you develop a fever, a cough, sore throat or shortness of breath within 14 days, call your GP or local emergency department to advise the doctor of your symptoms and travel history.
  • The Australian Government’s Smart Traveller website advises people not to travel to Hubei Province and ‘reconsider your need to travel’ to China overall.
  • NSW Health has developed a series of factsheets and FAQ concerning the virus. Please consult this information if you require further guidance.
  • Please also continue to be mindful of good hygiene practices which include regularly washing hands and applying hand sanitiser.

From the Course

Rainfall for the Week: 15.5mm Rainfall for 2020: 65.0mm   Dam: 60%   Green Speed: 9ft

Growth on all surfaces continues to improve with all areas of the course being mown this week. The shortened week has interfered with our mowing schedule, with fairways only being cut once for the week. We have sprayed all the back 7 fairways plus the 1st, 2nd, 7th, 8th and 10th fairways with growth regulator, so these fairways will present well after Friday’s cut.

Our tees have really been the big improver since the rainfall. They were really struggling during the dry conditions, as we weren’t simply able to apply enough irrigation to counteract the daily evaporation rates. The rainfall has turned conditions to our favour and as a result the coverage on the tees has improved.

Humidity has remained high all this week so the team has really focused on moisture levels in the greens. Greens have been checked most mornings this week with nightly irrigation reduced to ensure that moisture levels aren’t excessive. The humidity is ideal for disease development, and if soil moisture is high, this is the ideal environment for diseases to be at their most destructive form.

This week, we performed a tidy up of the area along the 15th hole where we removed tree stumps from 2 weeks ago. We removed the large sandstone rocks and filled in the holes that the stumps left behind. Some more work is required to finish leveling the area, before covering this site with mulch.

At this stage we are planning to cut greens both mornings this weekend.

Our volunteers had a week off because of the Australia Day public holiday, but they are chomping at the bit to get back on course next Monday!

Enjoy the weekend!

The Course Team.

Fundraising Golf Day for the Rural Fire Service – Friday 13th March

Oatlands Golf Club will be hosting a fundraising golf day on Friday 13th March 2020 to assist in raising funds to support the NSW Rural Fire Service in light of recent devastating fires in NSW. Saturday Morning BBQ – To Resume Saturday 1st February

The Club has had to push back the resumption of the Saturday morning BBQs due to rain damage incurred to the verandah in the last week.

In a series of unfortunate events, the BBQ covers recently purchased have been taken away to have weights added as they were blowing away in the wind and during this time, the recent rain has damaged the gas distributors in both BBQs. These will be repaired this week and the Saturday BBQ will recommence on Saturday 1st February.

Our apologies for the inconvenience.

Pennant Update

With the start of the new year comes the commencement of a range of annual Pennant Competitions which OGC are represented in.

Mixed Pennant

The Mixed Pennant season commenced in January with OGC playing 3 away games to start the season. A narrow loss under contentious circumstances in round 1 to Bayview was followed by two away wins at Strathfield and Macquarie Links. The squad has had a number of group sessions and practice games at the Club in our division to build camaraderie and prepare for what is a real chance of winning the pool in Division 2 with a team of mixed experience and youth and all on competitive handicaps of +1 to 3.

The squad consists of the following players:
